Elizabeth Northcott, incumbent of St Mark, Qualicum, has accepted the bishop’s appointment to be archdeacon of the Nimpkish region, effective immediately.

We look forward to announcing a date of her collation soon.

What is an archdeacon?

An archdeacon is a senior clergy position appointed at the pleasure of the bishop; they are responsible for:

  • welcoming and orienting new clergy to their region
  • installing a new incumbent in a service of celebration and leading the service in the absence of the bishop
  • providing pastoral support to parishes, especially in times of crisis
  • ensuring the smooth transition between incumbencies supporting and advising the bishop

Clergy and lay leaders are encouraged to engage with their regional archdeacon first when navigating parish challenges, and if deemed necessary by the archdeacon, to seek further assistance from the bishop’s office together.
