Duties of the Safe Church Liaison

The Safe Church Liaison is an important part of the team that ensures our parishes are places of safety and support. Each parish will nominate a volunteer to hold this position, and they will work with the synod office to complete the following:

1. Complete liaison training with the outgoing parish Safe Church Liaison or with the Diocesan Safe Church Coordinator.
2. Obtain access to the parish’s Safe Church email. For assistance with this, please connect with the outgoing parish Safe Church Liaison, your parish Administrator, or the synod office. All Safe Church business must be conducted via this email address. Personal emails are not to be used.
3. Attend an annual online meeting with other Safe Church Liaisons and the Safe Church Coordinator every June.
4. Keep an accurate and up to date record of Safe Church compliance for all staff and volunteers. This is an ongoing process with a yearly regular check-in with the Safe Church Coordinator, typically in September.
5. Follow-up with the parish administrator and incumbent to ensure that all children's programming is following the synod office guidelines.
6. Update the incumbent and parish administrator that all volunteers, employees, and clergy have completed Safe Church Training.
7. Confirm valid government issue ID for all volunteers, employees, and clergy who require a CRC/PIC (eg: valid driver’s license, passport, BC ID, etc.).
8. Submit the following required documentation for each volunteer/employee to the Safe church Coordinator at the synod office: - scanned copy of signed policy acknowledgment form - scanned copy of signed Safe Church video attendance - original copy of PIC (mailed to or dropped off at the synod office)
