The Anglican Diocese of Islands and Inlets is seeking an administrative assistant to join the small administrative team at our offices near Fairfield in downtown Victoria. This position is a .7 equivalent (day-time, weekdays, exact days/hours negotiable) with group health benefits and pension. The expected start date is February 1, 2026. The ideal candidate will be able to commit to at least three years in the role.  

The Diocese is a large and complex organization with many sites, people, and projects. The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written English communications skills, enthusiasm for change and adaptation, and a positive, unflappable attitude. We are looking for an individual who has a strong background in administration. 

The ideal candidate: 

  • has well-developed organizational and time-management skills, and can manage the competing priorities and demands of a multi-faceted organization and role; 
  • can fill the ‘front of house’ position in terms of greeting people who come or phone the office as well as deal with a large number of incomings emails. 
  • can support the office team in terms of ordering supplies, managing meeting schedules and contact lists, and supporting on-site and on-line meetings.   
  • can maintain boundaries and confidentiality; 
  • has advanced computer literacy, as a large portion of this position is email, website, correspondence, and file management. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (especially Outlook, Word, Forms, Teams, and the admin panel) and in Adobe Acrobat and Canva are indispensable; 
  • Ability to support the office and diocese with basic tech support (such as setting up a hydrid online and in person meeting using a Meeting Owl or assisting with logging in to emails and changing passwords. An ability to troubleshoot more advanced tech problems, particularly with MO365 would be a benefit. 
  • has experience editing and writing correspondence and communications to a variety of audiences; 
  • has experience in event planning and execution. Can create event postings and registration systems as well as manage catering, accommodation, speakers, etc.  
  • can work both independently and as part of a team. The office is a dynamic team environment where we help and assist one another with projects, events, and problems.   

It would be beneficial for the candidate to have knowledge of the Anglican Church of Canada's structure and culture. Candidates must be able to provide a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector search, complete Safe Church training (provided), and abide by the diocesan policies.
